CANSail Level 1 & 2 Instructor Course
Instructors who successfully complete this course will be qualified to teach beginner participants at the CANSail 1 & 2 Level, and have access to valuable CANSail Instructor Tools.

Course candidates will receive training the areas of:
-Professionalism
-Skill assessment and correction, specific to entry-level participants
-Effective interventions and teaching methods for application to introductory & first experience programming
- Program delivery training according to the principles of the Fundamental Stage of the Long Term Sailor Development (LTSD) framework
- Use of emergency action plans
-Providing a safe environment, fun atmosphere, and active experiences on land and on water
-Communication of progress to participants and parents
-CANSail 1 & 2 course curriculum and instructor resources
-All CANSail Level 1 & 2 Instructor Candidates will be required to demonstrate their sailing skills and will be tested on their theoretical knowledge. If they are unsuccessful on either of these elements they may be re-tested after the clinic, but there is an additional fee.

Prerequisites (email copies to programs@ontariosailing.ca - an email will be sent confirming receipt)
-16 years of age or older
-Minimum sailing level of CANSail 4
-Sail Canada Boat Safety Course (offered by Ontario Sailing)
-Standard First Aid with CPR C
-Pleasure Craft Operators Card (MUST BRING CARD TO YOUR CLINIC as well)
-CANSail Fundamental Instructor Course (must be completed prior to course, but you can register for this course if you are also registered in a Fundamental Course)
-LTSD Online Module (done for free through Sail Canada)

All candidates will be tested on their sailing theory and must score 80% or better to be successful. *PLEASE BRING WRITING UTENSILS WITH YOU TO THE CLINIC*
All candidates will also be tested on their sailing skills. If they are unsuccessful on either of these elements they may be re-tested after the clinic, but there is an additional fee. Theory: $59.94, Sailing Skills: $119.87 (retest day price) OR $191.79 (infield retest price).

When the instructor leaves this course with all the pre-requisites finished, the instructor will obtain one of the following results:

Trained- The instructor Candidate has completed all the elements of the clinic and can now certify students for CANSail 1&2 levels. In order to become "Certified" the candidate must take an evaluation within 2 years. Please note there is an additional fee of $191.79 for this evaluation (either in-field or at an evaluation clinic).

In Training- The Instructor Candidate has not completed all of the elements of the clinic or does not have all the required prerequisites.

A one-time payment of $611.34 (includes HST). **PLEASE NOTE THAT YOUR SPOT IN THE COURSE IS NOT GUARANTEED UNTIL FULL PAYMENT HAS BEEN RECEIVED.**

You are expected to attend and participate in all aspects of the clinic. Failure to do so will result in a failure in the Clinic due to professionalism which is not able to be retested and therefore you will have to register and take the entire clinic again.

Ontario Sailing reserves the right to cancel any program if the minimum number of participants is not reached. In this event, applicants will be given a refund via their original method of payment.

Refunds may be made for registrant withdrawals made up to 10 days prior to the start of the course; however these are subject to a $50 cancellation fee. After that date, no refunds will be issued. Registrants may transfer courses up to 10 days prior to the start of the course; however there is a $25 administration fee to transfer.

I understand that it is a condition of my participating in this program that I do so at my own risk. Therefore in consideration of my acceptance of entry into this program, I agree to save harmless and keep indemnified Ontario Sailing, the host club or organization, Sail Canada, the organizers and their respective agents, officials, servants and representatives from and against all claims, actions, costs, expenses and demands in respect to death, injury, loss or damage to my person or property, howsoever caused, arising out of or in connection with my taking part in this program, not withstanding that the same may have been contributed to or caused or occasioned by the negligence of the same bodies, or any of them, or their agents officials, servants or representatives. I further understand and agree that this release is binding upon myself, my heirs, executors and assigns. I understand that photographs and videos taken of program participants, staff may be used for promotional purposes and I hereby consent to such by Ontario Sailing. I have read and understand Ontario Sailing's Privacy Policy (found at OntarioSailing.ca).
