The CANSail Fundamental Course is the first step in the CANSail Instructor system. Successful completion of this course will enable instructor candidates to attend further clinics such as the CANSail Level 1&2, 3&4, and 5&6 Instructor Training Clinics. The CANSail Fundamental Course has been developed to provide an opportunity for instructors to reflect, problem solve, collaborate with peers and continue to build on knowledge from previous experiences, skills and new knowledge acquired from the clinic.

This course is mandatory for anyone taking a coach/instructor development clinic.

Pre-Requisites
- must be 16 years of age or turning 16 years of age (based on proximity of their registration in an instructor course)

Upon processing of your registration, you will be e-mailed the workbook that you will be using. It is in PDF format, and you type your answers directly into the workbook.

This Fundamental course will be facilitated through weekly online classroom sessions using a virtual classroom website. You must have headphones and a microphone or speakers and a microphone to take part. You will receive instructions via email closer to the date of the first session.

The Candidate is responsible for completing the required material within the course timelines.

The required material includes:
-Completed PDF workbook that you were emailed upon registration
-Completed emergency action plan
-2 Completed Lesson plans (1 for a land lesson and 1 for a water lesson)
-A video taped 10-15 minute land lesson, topic to be determined by the Learning Facilitator

It is also mandatory to participate in the online classroom sessions with the Learning Facilitator. The Learning Facilitator will be in contact with you to give you additional details. Failure to participate in the scheduled classroom sessions may result in failure of the course.

Once you have handed in your original submission your Learning Facilitator will evaluate your submission and review it with you and you will then have 2 weeks to revise and resubmit for your final evaluation.

Cost:
The cost of this Fundamental Correspondence Course is $357.30 (includes HST).

Timeline (plus any hours you require to complete the homework):
7 pm - 9 pm (ET) for each session.

**Attendance/participation in all sessions is mandatory, if you are unable to attend any of the dates, please do not register for this course!**


Session 1: Tuesday, February 23, 7:00pm-9:00pm
- Introduction, Module 1 & Module 4 from Workbook

Session 2: Tuesday, March 2, 7:00pm-9:00pm
- Review, Module 5, Talk about video land lesson submissions

Session 3: Tuesday, March 9, 7:00pm-9:00pm
- Review, Module 3, Video land lessons due - watch first half of the lessons

Session 4: Tuesday, March 16, 7:00pm-9:00pm
- Review, Module 2, watch rest of video land lessons, review details of the final submission

Final Session: Tuesday, March 23, 7:00pm-9:00pm
All course material is due (land and water lesson plans, Emergency Action Plan, course workbook, self-evaluation form)


CANCELLATION POLICY
Ontario Sailing reserves the right to cancel any program if the minimum number of participants is not reached. In this event, applicants will be given a refund via their original method of payment. Refunds may be made for registrant withdrawals made up to 10 days prior to the start of the course; however these are subject to a $50 cancellation fee. After that date, no refunds will be issued. Registrants may transfer courses up to 10 days prior to the start of the course; however there is a $25 administration fee to transfer.

I understand that it is a condition of my participating in this program that I do so at my own risk. Therefore in consideration of my acceptance of entry into this program, I agree to save harmless and keep indemnified Ontario Sailing, the host club or organization, the Canadian Yachting Association, the organizers and their respective agents, officials, servants and representatives from and against all claims, actions, costs, expenses and demands in respect to death, injury, loss or damage to my person or property, howsoever caused, arising out of or in connection with my taking part in this program, not withstanding that the same may have been contributed to or caused or occasioned by the negligence of the same bodies, or any of them, or their agents officials, servants or representatives. I further understand and agree that this release is binding upon myself, my heirs, executors and assigns. I understand that photographs and videos taken of program participants, staff may be used for promotional purposes and I hereby consent to such by Ontario Sailing.
